Sea Lions are listed in the Red Book of Russian Federation. This sea lion pup was found in July on Seal Island in Okhotsk Sea by scientists of Kamchatka Branch of the Pacific Institute of Geography of FEB RAS. Now he is finally settling down in the Primorsky region Oceanarium.  Sea lion pup was named Stark. Stark is now recovering after a stressful flight from Sakhalin to Vladivostok.

 

The leading specialist on adaptation of oceanic mammals and animal trainer of Primorsky Oceanarium, Vladimir Sirenko is taking care of the pup. According to his words, Stark’s health condition will be stabilized within a week.

 

Personal “apartment” with a swimming pool and walking area is prepared for Stark. According to the information from Federal Supervision Agency for Customer Protection and Human Welfare , at present, pup’s new house after a small repair is being sanitized in order to create favorable conditions for the maintenance of the sea lion. Sea lion pup is very active, cheerful, showing a good appetite and enjoying catching live fish from the basin."

 

Scientists have begun preparing Stark for winter, now he is having six meals daily, one liter at a time. His diet consists of a mixture of herring, squid, halibut and vitamins that are necessary for the balanced growth of the animal.

 

Representative of the Pacific Marine Bureau said, that they will closely monitor Stark’s further life and hope that he will soon become a star of Primorsky Oceanarium. Besides, sea lion will participate in the breeding program of the Oceanarium.
